It's a funny vid, but not likely to win any wars. The best you can do is make lazy christians realize that they don't really understand what they believe and make atheists who don't understand christianity think that it's just that simple. What meade said about the strawman is partially true, and 'nontheist' covered inerrancy. So this video doesn't accurately describe the views of christians who hold an infallible view of the bible (as opposed to inerrant) and that jesus' morality is a substitute for their own.

I don't know how someone with an inerrant view of the bible would respond to this as I've never really considered this to be a viable branch of christianity...but I'd like to hear them try muahaha

Meade, I assume you hold to the belief that either:

1) religious texts were written and directed by mere mortals
2) the deity of choice wrote or guided the writing in a manner the people of the time would understand, including the moral maturity of the time

This video only argues against the position of biblical inerrancy. If you believe it is inerrant and are a literalist, this is not a straw man argument at all. It points out what the scripture says.

I have yet to find an argument from biblical literalism and inerrancy that refutes its own scripture while maintaining any semblance of intellectual honesty. If your stated convictions are thus, only those branded as insane have the courage of those convictions today.

This video is a strawman. The assumed common sense morals our society holds today will look just as ridiculous 100 years from now as this looks to us. Just think of how the average person saw women or minorities 150 years ago in the US.

You won't find Christians advocating the stoning of homosexuals or the killing of rebellious teenagers today which is why this is a strawman. Christian theology for 2000 years has recognized that there is a difference between an ancient nation theocracy and the church which is made up of all nations.

gregorylent,

First, this video is a joke. Funny, ha ha stuff.

"can you see the flow to global openness happening? can you participate in the opening into higher mind that is happening now?"

-can you be a little more vague?

"just being a clever atheist is just the bottom rung on the ladder of human evolution …"

-ouch

I'd be interested in your comments regarding specific things I've written on this site since I didn't produce this video or make any particular statement in this post.

boring .. i think i don't need your worldview, too narrow ... if you are defining yourself by some other set of beliefs, what are you offering that is new? why bother to read you?

morality is hardwired, in the nature and structure of consciousness ... cultures and societies always modify this, but so what? can you see the flow to global openness happening? can you participate in the opening into higher mind that is happening now?

just being a clever atheist is just the bottom rung on the ladder of human evolution ...

i am just challenging your pov ... to me it seems narrow, reactionary, everything you think you oppose, you are ..

so, can you upgrade the octave? raise the frequency of your efforts?

because you do care, and are passionate, just very limited ... spend a year going around the world, or two, maybe

because you do have something to contribute, you just got fixated on an easy target, and it is beneath you.

enjoy, gregory lent

Man...that was some good stuff. Background music kind of brought back memories of Step-Aerobic videos, though.
